Speaking of women’s health, actually one of my favorite subjects, have any of you ladies uses a Sea Sponge for your menses? 💁🏽♀️
I’ve been using nothing but natural Sea Sponges for my period for near 30 years!🩸 And I’ve been meaning to share, because it seems like so many women never caught on to this wonderful wonderful solution!
Hopefully you know by now that traditional drug store menstrual products are full of bleach and toxins that can be absolutely horrendous for our health! Even nowadays, with the invention of better options like rubber ‘menstrual cups’ and period panties, I swear the sea sponge is easier and better then them all! I’ve tried them all; haven’t used a tampon in years, not a pad person, found cup to be annoying and tricky, period panties 🥴 But that just me. 🤷🏽♀️ ( I do use Sweet Skins Fabric Scraps as ‘rags’ in a pinch on my lazy flow day).
I really wanted to share this info now, because I am personally, almost done with this whole menstruating thing! (Went for 10 months without and I was loving it! Blissful Menopause is a different story for another time though..😉)
Anyway, she’s back and it just reminded me, how awesome sea sponges are and I wanted to finally share! Because this one little thing has seriously been one of the most liberating discoveries of my life! Can you imagine never buying products again? I buy a sponge or two a year, and that’s about it. They’re reusable, just rinse and repeat. Let it dry between periods. Any natural Sea Sponge will do (avoid any chemical treatments).
For use, just thoroughly wet your sponge, squeeze all the water out, in which time to sponge with become very soft and squish-able. Fold or squeeze it, and insert far up inside, much like a tampon. You want to make sure it’s up there and not poking out at all, or it’ll be uncomfortable. There may be a bit of a learning curve, so I suggest first trying on a slower flow day; you will come to understand your flow, what size and texture of sponge you prefer. You can pick them up at the health food store or beauty aisles in various stores (avoid any chemically treated ones; but most are not). Or a lovely place to buy them online is Jade & Pearl . Please note that most sources will not call them a menstrual product or name them as such, due to legality (and fear of offending the powers that be; women’s menstrual products are big business for the big daddy companies!)
I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice! I am just a gal who has used them for 30 years with no problems at all, and really really love my experience, so I thought I would share!
Anyway, you’re welcome.
Please comment and let me know your experience!
Thank you. I collect them on the beach and this is the first time learning about this way to make use of them. Love across the waters.
Oh wow, collecting them yourself sounds so amazing!
