What happens when creativity, love and sweet hemp scraps come together?
Turns out, some pretty special stuff and even a little magic.
In this line of work, scraps happen. Thankfully, they happen to be gorgeous! Not to mention soft and durable and have served our family well for an array of cleaning, baby and personal uses.
Curious to discover what our resourceful and creative customers might do with them, we added them to our online Accessories and launched this little contest.
We’ve really enjoyed the submissions, A BIG HEFTY BUNDLE OF THANKS to all who submitted. Below is the Grand Bundle Winner and two runner-ups who will all receive a Sweet Mini Bundle (1/2lb)!
1st Runner Up
“I love to make patchwork, especially for quilts. It seems like cheating to buy fancy fabric, then cut it up into little pieces to make a quilt. My homesteader (and environmentalist) heritage keeps me from doing that! So I have always made patchwork out of scraps I can find — from other sewers, cut up old clothing, etc. It is wonderful to think what I could make with your beautifully colored, ultra soft hemp scraps!! “ – Amber
2nd Runner-up
“This is a piece I made [with a Sweet Skins scrap] recently with the shibori dyeing technique.” – Labeba
Shibori is the Japanese art of shaped resist dyeing with Indigo. (We LOVE Indigo dye and actually have some sitting at the warehouse for a new creation!)
Grand Contest Winner!
“Here at Yolo Hospice we have volunteers who make heart shaped fabric tokens for bereaved clients (adults and children) to hold for comfort. The heart fits in the palm of your hand and you can keep it to bring you comfort throughout your day. I have two Sweet Skins garments and the fabric you use for your clothes would be really nice for these hearts!” – Laura
What an absolutely wonderful idea! We’ll be sending one of our 2lb Scrap Bundles to Laura at the YOLO Hospice in California!
